Wayne Jackson

ODESSA Wayne Jackson went peacefully to be with his Lord on August 5, 2008, at Medical Center Hospital with family at his side.

Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday, August 8, 2008, at Sunset Memorial Chapel with Charles Jones, Elder of Greenwood Church of Christ, officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Thursday evening, August 7, 2008, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in Sunset Funeral Home.

Wayne Jackson was the youngest born to Lane and Gladys Jackson on November 10, 1929, in Rocksprings, Texas. He was raised in the Hill Country on the Guadalupe River of which he had many childhood memories.

At the age of 16, he changed his birth date year to enlist in the U.S. Navy and served from 1946 to 1947 in the Pacific. After his honorable discharge, he moved to Hobbs, New Mexico, with his mother Gladys, who had remarried Clyde Abbott of Abbott Bros. Water Well Service.

As a young man in Hobbs, he worked in a movie theater where he met and fell in love with Bobba Lea Eidson. On June 4, 1949, they married and later had four sons - Michael, Mitchell, Monte, and Matthew. Wayne was a roughneck on a Shell Oil Company drilling rig, and later worked for the Dia-log company. Wayne and Bobba and family moved to Odessa in September 1965. In 1971, Wayne began Kuykendall Electric Wireline with partners John Kuykendall and Robert Craft. His sons all worked for him where he was a great mentor to them and to many other people in the oil field. He owned Kuykendall Electric Wireline until February 2005 when he retired.

Wayne dedicated his life to Bobba, his sons and their wives, their 10 grandchildren; and six great- grandchildren. He loved his family and all the holidays and family get togethers, especially having barbecues and fish fries. He loved watching old western movies and Texas Rangers baseball. His greatest passion was playing golf with his sons and many great friends at Odessa Country Club where he was a member for 39 years. He also really loved to go fishing for bass and catfish.

Bobba passed away on August 13, 2002. When Wayne lost his soul mate, it left a huge void in his life. In 2001 Wayne was diagnosed with Myasthenia Gravis, which slowly and tragically robbed his body and life from him. Wayne will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Pallbearers will be: Josh, Joe, Keaton, Matthew, and Zachary Jackson, with Chris and Dustin Jones.

Wayne is survived by his four sons, Michael Wayne and wife, Barbara, Mitchell Lane and wife, Valerie, Monte Joe and Matthew Lee and wife, Sarah. He is also survived by his 10 grandchildren - Joshua Wayne, Keisha Rachell, Raynie Brooke, Jordan Amber, Laycie Layne, Jenna Ashley, Joseph Mitchell, Keaton Monte, Matthew Lee and Zachary Hunter; and his six great-grandchildren, Colton, Dylan, Cameron, Gabriel, Caroline and Rhiannon.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Raja Naidu, Dr. Abdul Kadir, Dr. William Reilly, Dr. Scott Sanford, Dr. Liu, Dr. Chittur Ramanathan and staffs of Odessa Regional Medical Center, Medical Center Hospital, and the good people at Buena Vida Nursing Home and finally Compass Hospice.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to MDA (Muscular Dystrophy Association).
