College volleyball: Lady Falcons have no problem in sweep

The UTPB volleyball team picked up a much-needed Heartland Conference victory Saturday by sweeping Texas A&M International 25-19, 25-16, 25-16 in the Falcon Dome.

UTPB (13-17 overall, 6-4 conference) held A&M International (3-24, 2-9) to a hitting percentage of .049 while its offense recorded just 12 hitting errors out of 97 attacks.

Chassidy Johnson had two blocks to help lead UTPB’s defensive effort and Mica Lamprecht had a team-high seven digs in addition to six each for Alex Genung and Brianna Tunnell.

Offensively, Tunnell had 23 assists, Christina Bogers had a team-high seven kills and both Molly Atnip and Genung had six kills each.

UTPB leads St. Mary’s (6-19, 5-6) for fourth place in the Heartland Conference. The top four teams in the league qualify for postseason play.

After playing a nonconference match Tuesday at Abilene Christian, UTPB returns home for its last four regular-season matches, starting with a tilt against Dallas Baptist at 7 p.m. Friday in the Falcon Dome.
