Women breastfeed in Target as protest
A handful of mothers and their infants went to Odessa's Target on Wednesday in order to nurse – and protest.
Last month at a Target store in Webster, Michelle Hickman began nursing her infant son in the women’s clothing section. Hickman, 35, told ABCnews.com that eight Target employees eventually surrounded her and two asked her to move to a fitting room to finish nursing.
In response, women across the country organized “nurse ins” to publicly breast feed inside Target stores.
Sec. 165.002 of the Texas Heath and Safety Code reads, “A mother is entitled to breast-feed her baby in any location in which the mother is authorized to be.”
Nationally, Target released a statement saying, “guests who choose to breastfeed in public areas of the store are welcome to do so without being made to feel uncomfortable.”
