Local Students Travel to Europe
Odessa College and University of Texas of the Permian Basin students Ashley Perry and Kim Cardona recently traveled to Europe, which was planned months in advance by Judith Hawkins, an Ector County Independent School District retired teacher. Along on the trip were friends Audrey Petty, Emma Petty and Mindy Ashbey. The trip began with an overnight flight from Dallas that landed the group in Frankfurt, Germany, before going on to Paris, France. The group toured the Eiffel Tower, which was the centerpiece for the 1889 World’s Fair, and continued on to visit landscaped gardens, hall of mirrors and a maze where they played Marco Polo. The group continued their tour to see the Mona Lisa and other majestic art. They took an excursion to the Loire Valley, a 13th century cathedral and the Notre Dame Cathedral, where they enjoyed the stained glass rose windows and vaulted ceilings. The trip continued with a train ride to Toulouse, Barcelona and Madrid, Spain, where the group enjoyed a display of flamenco dance accompanied by song and guitar presented by the local natives. Perry is the daughter of Allen W. and Karen Perry of Odessa. Cardona is the daughter of Bobby Cardona of Van Horn and Ronee and Gerald Scott of Odessa.
