    >> BIG SPRING The Big Spring State Hospital will sell Valentine gifts from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays through Feb. 14 at the hospital, 1901 N. Highway 87.

    Items for sale are life-sized stuffed bears, stackable or tiered boxes of love, heart-shaped wicker snack baskets, musical stuffed animals with heart candy, M&M race car with assorted loose candy, sweetheart wire basket, singing telegrams, paint buckets or carnation bud vase, and/or musical rose in vase or snack bucket.

    The hospital is also soliciting volunteers who would like to sing, deliver, take orders and/or assemble gift items.

    All funds will benefit the hospital patients.

    For volunteers or to place orders, call the hospital community relations office at 432-268-7536, 432-268-7271 or 432-268-7535. Items purchased via phone will be delivered free of charge.

    >> Harmony Home has scheduled its 29th annual Super Bowl Party fund-raiser at 6 p.m. today at the MCM Grandé Hotel FunDome, 6201 E. Highway 80.

    The event includes Harmony Home travel mugs, a cash bar, a silent auction and a live auction.

    Tickets will be sold for a chance to win a 2008 Ford F-150 pickup.

    >> The Ector County Library has scheduled children’s programs beginning with story time “Pigs, Pigs, Pigs & Craft” at 10 a.m. Tuesday, and a movie “Winnie the Pooh a Valentine For You” at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the library, 321 W. Fifth St.

    >> The Sewell Family of Dealerships has scheduled the third annual Sewell Leadership Event featuring John C. Maxwell from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday at Crossroads Fellowship Church, Highway 191 and Billy Hext Road.

    The event is open to the West Texas community.

    It will be an opportunity for all community members to learn practical leadership skills from a world-renowned leadership expert, speaker and author.

    Attendees are asked to make a $10 minimum donation to the Education Foundation.

    >> The Odessa Symphony Guild has scheduled its 50th annual ball and presentation of the

    belles and beaux at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Odessa Country Club.

    This year’s theme is “50 Years of Black, Gold and Bach.”

    Brunch will be served at 10:30 p.m.

    Student admission is $30 per person and gallery seating is $75. Table seating is also available. All proceeds will go the Midland-Odessa Symphony.

    >> HOBBS, N.M. The Jack Maddox Distinguished Lecture Series presents Indianapolis Colts head coach Tony Dungy at 7:30 p.m. March 13 at Hobbs High’s Tydings Auditorium, 800 N. Jefferson St.

    Dungy led his team to win the 2007 Super Bowl and is author of the New York Times best-seller, “Quiet Strength: The Principles, Practices and Priorities of a Winning Life.”

    >> AARP Tax-Aide, the free, volunteer-run tax assistance and preparation service is looking for volunteers in the Odessa area for either tax counseling and/or leadership positions.

    Each year from Feb. 1 through April 15, AARP Tax-Aide volunteers prepare federal, state and local tax returns for low- and middle-income taxpayers, with special attention to those age 60 and older.

    >> Legal Aid of NorthWest Texas of Odessa provides free legal help for individuals who cannot afford legal representation.

    LANWT serves individuals in Andrews, Crane, Ector, Loving, Ward and Winkler counties. In-house staff attorneys can handle a wide range of civil cases, including government benefits, housing, family law, health law, estate matters and consumer law. In addition to representation by staff attorneys, the program utilizes private attorneys to represent many clients. LANWT does not handle criminal or fee-generating cases. Special home intake appointments are scheduled for homebound individuals. For an appointment, call 332-1207, starting at 8:30 a.m. each Friday morning.
