NUGGETS: God uses seven spirits
And there shall come forth out of the stem of Jesse. And a Branch shall grow out of his roots: And the spirit of the Lord shall rest on him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might the spirit of knowledge and of the spirit of the Lord, says Isaiah 11:1-2.
In Revelation John talks about the seven spirits before the throne (Revelation 1:4).
Seven is God’s perfect number. Let’s look at these seven spirits.
The Spirit of the Lord: “The spirit of the Lord is upon me; because the Lord has anointed me to preach good tidings to the meek; He has sent me to bind up the broken hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and opening of the prison to them that are bound; to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn; (Isaiah 61:1-2). Sounds just like what Jesus would do. That is also the scripture that is quoted in Luke 4:18.
The wording is a little different. That is the ministry God has given you and me, as the Body of Christ. The Lord said, “My spirit will not always strive with man, (Gen. 6:3). We want to do what He has called us to do.
The Spirit of Wisdom: “And they were not able to resist the wisdom and the spirit by which he spake” (Acts 6:10). “The God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him” (Ephesians 1:17).
Of course we need the influence of each of the spirits of God. In James it tells us if we lack wisdom; just ask of Him who gives liberally.
The Spirit of Understanding: “The spirit of understanding shall rest upon Him” (Isaiah 11:2).
We saw this here, but the way it is expressed we overlook the spirit of understanding. He said “Get understanding.”
The Spirit of Counsel: “There are many devices in a man’s heart; nevertheless the counsel of the Lord, that shall stand” (Proverbs 19:21). All through the word it talks about the counsel of the Lord.
The Holy Spirit will lead us into all truth. That is of the spirit of counsel. The Holy Spirit is our teacher.
The Spirit of Might: “He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might by His Spirit in the inner man” (Ephesians 1:16).
The Spirit of Knowledge: “For to one is given by the Spirit the word of knowledge.” There is revelation knowledge that can only be received from the spirit of God.
The Spirit of the fear of the Lord: We know the spirit of the Lord comes on people that are in His presence.
That is why all through the word, when they were in His presence, they fell down. It was an awesome reverent fear.
I am concerned that that fear is missing today. Being afraid of things or death is stimulated by guilt. Judgment comes with that fear. The reverent fear of God is realizing who God really is. Blessings come with that kind of fear.
Repenting, turning from our sin and inviting Jesus into our hearts will bring the blessings, for He has not given us the Spirit of fear, only the fear of the Lord.
