MIDLAND The Permian Basin Area Foundation has awarded $196,408 in scholarships to assist 124 area students with costs of higher education.
The awards were announced at the Foundation's annual scholarship recognition dinner recently hosted in Midland. Kent Hance, Chancellor of Texas Tech University was the featured speaker at the event.
The scholarships were made possible with resources provided by donors to 53 of the Foundation's scholarship funds.
"Permian Basin Area Foundation is pleased to partner with our generous donors in making these scholarships possible," said G. William Fowler, chairman of the Foundation's board of governors. "Education is the cornerstone for building personal economic opportunity, and we applaud the students who have earned these awards and made a personal commitment to self-improvement through higher education."
Guy McCrary, president of Permian Basin Area Foundation noted that establishing a scholarship fund with the Foundation is a very simple process for a donor.
"However, the value is a lasting investment in community and the future of our nation," he said.
Awards from the Foundation's scholarship funds for the 2008-2009 school year are:
