Man arrested in robbery cases (+MUG)(+AFFIDAVITS)
Richard Don Schorovsky had a charge of aggravated robbery applied to him on a municipal court warrant Wednesday afternoon.
A 22-year-old Odessa man was charged Tuesday with the aggravated robbery of a man behind a restaurant after being arrested Sunday in connection with the robbery of a convenience store.
Richard Don Schorovsky, 1588 Tim Tom Circle, was first charged with robbery after police said he demanded money from a clerk on Jan. 28 at 7-Eleven, 2700 N. Grandview Ave.
According to an arrest affidavit, a man threatened to shoot the clerk if he did not give the man money, but no weapon was ever shown.
After being handed money from the register, the man ran from the store, at which point a witness saw him and started chasing him, according to the affidavit.
The man also threatened to shoot the witness, according to the affidavit, who was an off-duty deputy from El Paso County. The deputy let him go at the threat of a weapon.
Further investigation led to issuance of an arrest warrant for Schorovsky, the release stated, and he was arrested at about 3 p.m. Sunday in the 11100 block of West 16th Street.
Schorovsky was then charged on Tuesday with aggravated robbery in connection with a robbery just days before the 7-Eleven robbery at the Chili’s Grill and Bar at 5025 E. 42nd St.
According to an arrest warrant affidavit, Schorovsky borrowed Travis Slade’s grandmother’s car to drive to Chili’s and rob Dawson Mills.
Slade originally reported the car as stolen, but was arrested himself Feb. 13 on a charge of false report to a peace officer.
Schorovsky then used a gun to steal Mills’ money, according to the affidavit, which he later admitted to in the affidavit but said he used a water gun.
Odessa Police Department spokeswoman Cpl. Sherrie Carruth previously said these two reported robberies and two others might be connected, but she said in an email Tuesday that police have not made a “definitive determination” on whether they are, in fact, connected and if Schorovsky will be charged with more than one robbery.
The other two robberies on that same night occurred in a parking lot in the 5100 block of North Dixie Boulevard and the Schlotzky’s at 5003 JBS Parkway. Police said the Schlotzky’s robber was described as a middle-aged Hispanic man, however.
