BIG BEND The Peregrine falcon hasn’t been on the federal endangered species list since 1999, but Big Bend National Park still takes measures to protect the raptor, which is still on the state’s endangered species list.
The park will close the Southeast Rim Trail and part of the Northeast Rim Trail between Feb. 1 and May 31. All campsites on the Southeast Rim and Northeast campsites 4 and 5 will also be closed.
Technical rock climbing on rock faces within a quarter-mile of known Peregrine eyries, as posted, will not be allowed between Feb. 1 and July 15.
There are fewer than a dozen known nesting pairs of the Peregrine falcon in the state.
