The Lily Pad
Comments 0 | Recommend 0Invite flowers to your next event or party
Spring is the best time for parties because there's so much to celebrate! Graduations are around the corner, bridesmaids are giving showers and political parties are heating up, heavy on the red, white and blue arrangements.
The Lily Pad, formerly Expressions, is ready to take care of your flower and gift needs, whether you're interested in table and podium arrangements for a business banquet or wedding flowers to beautify the church and reception hall.
"We're in full swing right now with weddings and quinceañeras," says owner Sherry Burroughs. "Also, prom and graduation are coming up, so we're loaded up with both Permian and Odessa High colors to help them celebrate. And we can't forget about Mother's Day!"
Although the name has changed, The Lily Pad still has the same super staff. Olga Chavez, head designer and shop manager, has her own following.
"People call, even from Midland, and specify that they want Olga to do their arrangements," Sherry says.
Olga and Juanita Hernandez will brighten your home with floral arrangements, indoors and out. "They can decorate your doors with seasonal floral arrangements. Lots of people rely on them for Thanksgiving and Christmas," Sherry says. "And, they'll take care of your party decorations from start to finish, from delivery and set up to tear down."
After 30 years in business under various names, the flower shop became The Lily Pad in January. When the shop came up for sale, Sherry took advantage of an opportunity to be her own boss.
"With the help of a lot of prayer and a dear friend, things came together very quickly," she says. "The community has really embraced us."
The Lily Pad is named after Sherry's mother, who died in 1974. Her sister, a graphic designer, designed the shop's logo. Sherry's two granddaughters are frequent helpers in the shop. Madison, 10, takes a real interest in the business and is learning to design and care for plants, Sherry says.
The shop's décor has a homey flavor with an antique armoire and hatbox as part of the design scheme along with a thriving split-leaf philodendron.
"That plant has so much character," Sherry says. "I love it."
Visitors browse among the flowers, plants and gifts, including numerous picture frames. Along with Sherry, they enjoy the scented air.
"Working here lets you have aromatherapy all day long," Sherry says.
Located at 2119 E. 42nd St., The Lily Pad takes orders for delivery through Teleflora and Bloomnet. For information, call (432) 362-2343 or (800) 648-8490.
