After watching a small plane fly low over her house and into the skyline, Odessa resident Ann Swann knew what her next story would be.
Writing a short story titled “Stevie” for the 2010 Abilene Writer’s Guide contest; the entry won first place in its division and Swann soon found herself encouraged to expand on the idea of the book by those who read it.
Now titled “The Phantom Pilot,” the novel is now available for those who want to read it. The only catch is it’s only available for electronic books.
“To get novels published, they have to be over 60,000 words,” Swann said about her 27,000 story.
Taking place in the 1960s, Swann said the story is about two children who discover a phantom after they witness a plane crash behind one of the character’s house. While containing elements of the supernatural, Swann said the book is more character-driven and should have something available for people of all ages.
Born in Lamesa and now living in Odessa for more than 20 years, Swann said she is currently working on a sequel to “The Phantom Pilot” and hopes to have the new story out by Halloween.
“This one will be in both print and digital,” she said.
