It's hard not to love a product that let's you stuff yourself with a mound of pasta at a cost of just 40 calories.
This isn't fantasy food. It's Tofu Shirataki, delicious and filling noodles made from tofu that pack all of 20 calories per 4-ounce serving. With numbers like that, there's no shame in snarfing the entire two-serving package.
Made by House Foods American Corp., these soy-based noodles taste nothing like tofu. They have the body and taste of a light egg noodle, and come in three shapes - fettuccine, spaghetti and the new angel hair.
These water-packed noodles must be kept refrigerated, but prep is simple. Drain, rinse and boil for about a minute. Then use them as you would wheat noodles in soups, stir-fry or with pasta sauces.

A dash of color
Egg Beaters with Yolk puts a sunny spin on the line of liquid eggs, adding color and additional flavor. Adding the yolk adds 10 calories (to 40 from 30) and 50 milligrams of cholesterol (the whites-only product has none) per serving. We liked the taste and texture of the fluffy omelet we made. A 15-ounce container is $3.80-$4.30 at grocers.
Pear pleasures
Crispy Green's Pear Crisps, Asian pear slices with no added preservatives, is the newest in its line of freeze-dried fruit snacks. The texture is great, too; a slice starts with a crunch, then melts in your mouth. A six-pack is $8 at www.crispygreen.com.
