ODESSA AMERICAN

MIDLAND Nadine “Peggy” Fickenscher, 86, was called home to be with Jesus Christ, her Savior, Saturday, Dec. 12, 2009, after a valiant struggle with leukemia.

Peggy was born in Etna, Pa., on July 4, 1923, to Adolph and Emma Zigan. She graduated from Etna High School and afterward worked as a legal secretary for several years. She was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. G.W. Fickenscher; and sons, Bill Fickenscher, Jr., and David Dale Fickenscher.

“I have been so blessed” was always Peggy’s attitude toward family, being a pastor’s wife and especially being a child of God. For many she was a prayer warrior and a beautiful example of Christian faith. For decades she served in various organizations of the Lutheran Church, including Sunday School, V.B.S. teacher, offices in the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League, Bethesda Auxiliary and congregational financial secretary.

Peggy is survived by her daughter, Peggy Konz, of Midland; her son, the Rev. Mike Fickenscher and his wife, June, of Monahans, Texas; and a sister, Ruth Luffey, of Pittsburgh, Pa. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Karen Luebke and husband, Michael, of Wichita Falls, Texas, David Konz of Midland, Jonathan Fickenscher and wife, Amy, of Houston, Texas, Rebecca Humble and husband, Seth, of Taylor, Texas, and James Fickenscher and wife, Rachel, of St. Louis, Mo. In addition, Peggy is survived by three great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Jenna and Reagan Luebke of Wichita Falls, Texas.

Funeral services have been scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 16, 2009, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church with the Rev. Michael Fickenscher officiating. Interment will be in Houston, Texas, Friday, Dec. 18, 2009, at 10 a.m. at Resthaven Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home, 801 Andrews Highway, Midland, Texas, 79701, 432-683-5555. Condolences may be offered at www.ellisfunerals.com.

The family would like to express sincere gratitude to Dr. Ashutosh Rastogi and staff at Texas Oncology and the fourth floor oncology staff at Midland Memorial Hospital for being so supportive and caring this past year.

Memorials may be sent to Texas Lutherans for Life, 109 Susan Carrol, San Antonio, TX 78216, or Texas Oncology, 400 N. Garfield, Midland, TX 79701.
