FOOTBALL: Rankin 64, Robert Lee 0

MERTZON Led by Cory Norwood’s four rushing touchdowns, Rankin beat Robert Lee 64-0 in a Six-Man Division I bi-district playoff game that was ended at halftime because of the 45-point mercy rule.

The Red Devils advanced to play Borden County. The two schools met Aug. 27 and Rankin emerged with a 38-26 victory. The date, time and location of the rematch remain unknown, according to Rankin coach Shannon Williams.

Norwood finished with 117 yards on eight carries on Friday at Irion Count High School. That equates to an average of 14.6 yards per carry. He scored on runs of 45, 9, 3 and 11 yards.

Aaron Castillo added a pair of rushing touchdowns in the second quarter and Dalton Michum threw a pair of touchdowns for Rankin (9-2).

Robert Lee finished the year 6-5.
