NUGGETS: God is working the big plan in your life
We talked about how a decree was to take all people into their town for a census for taxes.
Mary and Joseph were to go into Bethlehem for that purpose. Mary was heavy with child, and don’t you know Mary would have preferred to have said “Joe, you go on in and just tell them there are two of us and soon be three; I’ll be here on the couch when you get back.” No, they had to be counted. Sometimes God uses uncomfortable things to get us into the place He wants us to be.
It was that census and the uncomfortable trip that brought Mary and Joseph into the place where it had been prophesied that Jesus would be born. They were moved to the place and the time where they were destined to be.
It was prophesied that Jesus was to be born in Bethlehem. Bethlehem means, “The House of Bread. The place The Bread of Life was to be born.” This story started a long time before what we see. When the town of Bethlehem was established, I’m sure the leaders thought they came up with the name of the town, but God named it because He had a plan much bigger than those leaders of that city. God is working in the big plan He has for your life. You may be going through some uncomfortable things, but just remember our Heavenly Father cares about and works in everything that concerns you.
When they got there, there was no room for them in the inn. The plan of God had been that Jesus was to be born in a stable. The stable was a place that was attainable to all mankind, all races, colors, nationalities, all size, shapes and in all walks of life, from kings to stable boys. So no matter what you think of yourself, Jesus is attainable to you. No person is too bad and no sin too great for the loving mercy of Jesus. I shared with you before, how Jesus was born from the Spirit into the flesh, so that you and I might be born from the flesh into the spirit, which is called being” born again.” They were destined to be in the Stable.
They wrapped Jesus in swaddling clothes. In those days, they would wrap babies in a square cloth, and then wrap bands called milk cloth around them to keep them straight, so they would grow correctly. It was a sign of good parents, to follow this procedure, so that the child would mature properly. It is the same today in the church, that a new Christian, be swaddled in the word (Milk of the word) to grow straight, secure and strong.
Then they laid Him in a manger. A manger was called a feeding place. Jesus is the Bread of life to the world; it’s no surprise that He would be laid in a feeding place that is attainable for all mankind. He is the word become flesh, so we as Christians read, feast on, drink in the word. “Taste and see that the Lord is good” (Psalm 34:8). Have you tasted of Him? “To him who overcomes, I will give to eat of the tree of life” (Revelations 2:7). To be an overcomer, is to invite the overcomer, Jesus, into your heart. Do it today! It’s your destiny!
