Comments 0 | Recommend 0ODESSA Ed Lowman, age 76, passed away Friday, August 1, 2008, at the Hospice House in Odessa.
He was born April 25, 1932, to Lane and Evelyn (Powell) Lowman in Dalton, GA. He served in the U.S. Marines for five years, and later married Madilyn Cloninger on October 30, 1980, in Odessa. He was the owner of The Garage and was a member of the Baptist Church.
Ed served in the Korean War as a Marine on the 38th parallel where he was injured and honored for his brave service with several medals.
Throughout his life he loved to collect antiques, jukeboxes, and guns and restore old cars. He collected and traded antiques and displayed them in The Garage and his home. In his later years, Ed collected and repaired jukeboxes. He became such an avid collector that the local newspaper wrote an article about him and his collection. He loved to collect guns, especially rifles similar to the one he used in the Marines during the Korean War. His biggest joy in restoring old cars was when he restored a 1947 firetruck to original condition, including original license plate tags.
Ed was a loving and patience husband and father and good provider to all his children.
He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Madilyn Lowman of Odessa; his sons and stepsons, Dan Lowman and his wife, Pepper of Mobile, Alabama, Randy Lowman and his wife, Sheila of Pensacola, Florida, Edward Summers and his wife, Vickie of Acworth, Georgia, Kelly Lane and his wife, Cyndi Lowman of Willis Point, Texas, Clyde Hedrick and his wife, Mary Sue of Lake Oswego, Oregon and Ted Hedrick and his wife, Leia of Odessa; daughters and stepdaughter, Martha (Marty) Markert of Chattanooga, Tennessee, Shelia Lowman of Rossville, Georgia and Donna Gallagos of Odessa; two brothers, Mel Lowman and Ken Lowman and his wife, Shirley, all of Cincinnati, Ohio; 18 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank his caregivers from Accolade, Dr. Madhu, Ph.D., and the Odessa Hospice House for the loving respect and care they provided.
Memorial services were held on Monday, August 4, 2008, at Hubbard-Kelly Chapel with Rev. Jimmy Braswell officiating.
