Maudie Lou ‘Lou' Lumpkin
Maudie Lou “Lou” Lumpkin, of Odessa, was called to her Heavenly Home on Thursday, December 29, 2011 in Comanche County, Texas. Lou was born in Brownfield on April 16, 1946 to Ernest George Thornton and Maudie Darlene (Cole) Thornton. She earned her degree in cosmetology and also worked as a secretary and bookkeeper. She and her husband, John, married in Seagraves on March 15, 1964. Together, they raised their son, Alan, of whom she was very proud. When he was blessed with two children, nothing could have made her happier, and she loved them like there was no tomorrow.
Lou enjoyed making costume jewelry, ceramics, and genealogy. She didn’t enjoy the fishing herself, but loved to go down to Comanche and stay in the travel trailer with John, especially if the grandchildren came over from Brownfield. She was a wonderful mother-in-law and was most content spending time with family and friends.
Those left to cherish her love and memory are her husband: John Lumpkin of Odessa; son: Alan Lumpkin and wife Mary of Odessa; two grandchildren: Khristopher Alan Roe and wife Elizabeth, and Anthony Thomas Lumpkin, all of Brownwood; brother: Ernest Thornton and wife Ann of Andrews; four sisters: Yvonne Smith and husband J. W. of Lubbock, Ann Goff and husband Frank of Baxter, TN, Virginia Franklin and husband Ted of Abilene, Veta Hicks and husband Rick of Lake Arthur, LA; brothers-in-law: Archie Lumpkin and wife Laverne of Odessa, Kenneth Lumpkin and wife Joyce of Watonga, OK, and Robert Lumpkin and wife Debbie of Coleman; sisters-in-law: Mildred Butler and husband Elmer of Denver City, Elsie Edwards and husband Robert, and Eddie Rimmer and husband Ron, all of Powers, OR, Dorothy Durbin and husband John of Holdenville, OK; and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins and innumerable friends.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, January 1, 2012 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be Tuesday, January 3, 2012 at West University Church of Christ (where she and John are long-time members), officiated by Brother Roy Jones.
