Dorothy LaVerne Fallin Means

ODESSA AMERICAN

ODESSA Dorothy LaVerne Fallin Means passed into the loving arms of her Savior Jesus Christ on Feb. 8, 2010, at her home in Odessa, Texas.

 

She was born in Stephenville, Texas, on Sept. 3, 1934, and attended school in Fort Worth, where she graduated from Diamond Hill High School in 1952, where she was a majorette and drum major.

 

On July 6, 1953, she married Bobby Means and lived in Aledo, Texas, for over 25 years before retiring and moving to Odessa in 1991 to be closer to her grandchildren.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jay and Agnes Fallin.

 

Survivors include her husband, Bobby Means, of Odessa; daughter, Becky Brooks and husband Steve of Odessa; daughter, Susie Chancellor and husband Preston of Odessa; daughter, Glenda Phillips and husband Barry III of Odessa; daughter, Judy Means of Odessa; one brother, Kenneth Fallin of Bedford, Texas; one sister, Gloria Waskow of Temple, Texas; and four grandchildren whom she adored, Nikki Brooks, Whitney Rike and husband John, Shanae and Kelsey Phillips; she is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

 

Services celebrating her life are scheduled for 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2010, at First Baptist Church with the Reverend Dr. Byron McWilliams and the Reverend Don Norris officiating.

 

Dorothy was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother to her adoring family. She had a tender, loving heart and a giving spirit, but she will always be remembered as a woman of incredible faith. Her life was filled with good works and acts of kindness. She was honored with the “Good Neighbor” award by the Fort Worth Press Club for her rearing of foster children and her many acts of service to others. She served as secretary to the senior pastor of Northside Baptist Church in Weatherford, Texas, for more than twenty years before retiring and moving to Odessa.

 

Bobby and Dorothy have been active members of First Baptist Church of Odessa for more than 15 years. Dorothy was an avid reader and delighted in her church Roundtable book club; she was a member of the Dorcas Sunday School class.

 

Dorothy loved her husband Bobby dearly. She also loved life and lived it to the fullest. She will be greatly missed, but forever celebrated for the legacy of faith and good works she leaves behind.
