The most qualified
Comments 0 | Recommend 0I don't like the kind of arrogance shown by Crosby Swanson in his nasty diatribe about Hillary Clinton.
Let it be known that there are millions of us who admire and support Clinton because of her ideas about how to restore the America I once knew and loved.
Conservatives like Swanson may indulge their petty hatreds with glee assuming that everyone who might read the OA agree with them. Their mistake.
Let me point out some of the reasons why they are so afraid:
>> She has a brilliant mind that rivals anyone's including males.
>> She has spent most of her life advocating for the ordinary citizen, especially children and the powerless, due probably to her strong Methodist roots.
>> Her special concern is that health care be available and affordable for every American. She and her committee of experts would have presented a workable health care plan for voters to consider almost 20 years ago if she had not been demonized by the Republicans.
She was one of the most active first ladies ever. As first lady she represented our nation in more than 80 countries making speeches in support of human rights, especially for women and children. Her staff joked that the State Department directive was if a country was too small, too dangerous, or too poor, send Hillary.
I have no doubt that what she described as ducking and running happened to her during one of those trips. She just misremembered it as being Bosnia. We're allowed faulty memories from 20 years ago without being called a liar.
Is Hillary Clinton qualified to be president? Name any one of her opponents more qualified. You can't. Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell says in Newsweek (April 28): "I have no doubt that the best person to lead our nation starting Jan 20, 2009, is Sen. Hillary Clinton ... she is one of the smartest, most capable and competent individuals you will ever meet. I have met many presidential candidates and none of them, including Bill Clinton, has been as well prepared and ready to be president as Hillary is."
She has been endorsed by 35 admirals and generals, including two former chairmen of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. She has earned the respect of the military from the soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan up to the top. She served eight years as first lady and two terms as the senator from New York. As senator, she served five years on the Armed Services Committee. During her seven years in the Senate, she worked closely and successfully with Republicans and Democrats.
Her health care plan is balanced and workable. Her plan to get troops out of Iraq is starting in 60 days after her inauguration is careful and responsible and realistic.
She has well thought out plans for correcting the disasters the Bush administration has caused - including a grasp of the U.S. economy, the global economy, technology and science.
She has seen the disastrous problems that our nation under Bush has to solve and she knows how to rectify those mistakes. Is she ready? No one else is as capable and ready as she is.
