Broncho Legacy Show Choir works on Christmas show

Odessa High School’s show choir, Broncho Legacy, performs in their annual Christmas concert 7:30 p.m. Dec. 10 in the OHS auditorium. Tickets for the show will be $7.50 at the door.

Before the concert, the choir must concern themselves with learning and memorizing songs as well as choreography. The students have been preparing for the upcoming concert since October.

We’re trying to get all the music learned,” OHS Choir Director Sheri Riley said. “We’re mainly working on the show order and group tunes right now. We’ll work on individual solos during Thanksgiving.”

Among the songs that will be featured at the concert are Christmas favorites like “Where Are You Christmas,” “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” and a new arrangement of “Carol of the Bells.”

“I don’t want to give too much away, but you can expect both traditional and new Christmas tunes,” Riley said.

Riley said the songs will have band accompaniment including keyboard, drums and guitar from both professional adults and student performers, adding variety and excitement to the concert.

“We’ve made a conscious effort to make the show entertaining and interesting,” senior and choir member Adam Vore said. “We’re going to have some skits, some fast songs and a lot of dancing.”

Members of Broncho Legacy said they expect a good show this year.

“We’ve got a strong Broncho Legacy group, so it should be the best show ever,” Riley said. “Through the process we intend to not only grow as musicians, but also have a heck of a lot of fun.”

Before the fun can begin however, the choir plans to put in a lot of work to make the performance the best it can be.

“I feel like we’re going to be a lot more prepared, because we started a lot earlier. We basically put the show together in two weeks last year,” Vore said.

The choir is looking forward to the concert after all their work is done, and is hoping to see a full house.

“What makes the show is the audience,” Vore said. “The more people who show up, the more successful it will be for us and for everyone involved.”
