Where's the help?
I have had the unfortunate experience of coming into contact with Child Protective Services in the last couple of weeks.
I am related to Christopher Roedel, the 5-year-old who was hit and killed on West University Boulevard.
In the last few weeks, I have witnessed CPS carelessness, lack of consideration and most of all, the will to control and destroy lives.
The four remaining boys were torn from the family home one day after Chris was killed. How devastating can that be to these children.
Prior to this incident, CPS workers had said, “We can’t do anything until something happens.”
Well, something happened and now they want to rush in and save the day? NOT!
CPS was at the home two days prior to Christopher’s accident. Evidently there wasn’t anything wrong that day for them to remove the children. What could have changed in three days besides Christopher’s accident for them to have reason to rip these children from the home and mother during a very hard time for them all?
They devastated the brothers, mother and probably many more lives that day. Then, they were at the funeral, but not because they cared, but because they were watchdogs. They had to bring the children to their brother’s funeral and were at least 20 minutes late. Then, they ripped the children away from the mother before the funeral was over and everyone had left.
The next-to-youngest was VERY upset, screaming he wanted his mama! One of the CPS ladies did have a heart and told them to just wait until it was over. But the other lady said no, it’s time to go. Then the young boy broke free from her arms and ran back to his mother. Wow, what if this little boy had ran off and got hit by a car? Just proof that “things happen” without anyone being at fault!
Since then, there has been a court hearing that I attended. The two oldest boys were there, enjoying the time they had with family. Everyone’s hopes were high, thinking the boys could go home.
Then CPS announces that the biological father had not been served yet, so the hearing had to be rescheduled.
This all could have been prevented if CPS had gotten all its eggs in the basket.
These children were devastated. The mother was devastated. It cost the state money for the attorneys and the family money for its attorney.
I am just asking for a little humanity from these people. They claim they are there to help, when in fact, what I have personally experienced in a short time has not shown me that.
