Odessa and Andrews young bowlers traveled with coaches, families and friends in June 2007 to participate in the annual 2007 Texas State USBC Youth bowling tournament.
The 55 bowlers, ages 4-21, were entered in competition in handicap team, doubles and individual events for the chance to earn awards and scholarship money.
Twenty-two of those bowlers won awards at the tournament. Some of those winners included: Robert Arnold, first place, Division 1; Matthew Kelly, first place, Singles Division 10;
Matthew Kelly and Katie Carrigan, third place, Doubles Division 10; and Brady Blau and Zackery Bugg, sixth place, Doubles Division 8.
These bowlers participate in local youth leagues formed at Sherwood Lanes and Diamond Lanes throughout the year and move on to compete with other youths across the state of Texas.
The state tournament normally runs six weeks starting in June.
Each participant has the opportunity to complete in team, doubles, singles and all events bowling nine games throughout a two-day period.
Scores bowled are given a handicap and scores achieved are compared against bowlers with similar averages. The scores are then ranked within the bowlers predetermined division.
Scholarships are given for the first three places in each division by event, as well as, given to a bowler in each squad during the state tournament.
The Odessa USBC Association offers many opportunities for local youth to earn scholarships through the year.

The Diamond Lanes group meets from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. each Sunday at Diamond Lanes, 2208 E. Eighth St.
