Law is self-explanatory

As a longtime reader and first-time writer to Public Forum, I have an opinion concerning bicycle laws.

Texas law states that bicycles are vehicles. It is unlawful for motorized traffic to pass a bicycle moving in the same direction and same lane if on an 8-foot-wide road lane.  It must use a safe, legal passing lane, usually on the left-side lane.

As a bicycle rider, I have seen this law broken many times.

A July 20 letter mentioned laws concerning bicycle lanes and "lessons" to be given to a vast majority of Odessans, but gave no specifics. Also a second letter says that bicycles are being "squeezed" between parked and moving vehicles.

However, the above 8-foot law should solve this if it is enforced.
