Volleyball: OHS / Permian roundup

>> Tascosa beats OHS: In Amarillo, Odessa High School's volleyball team made a better account for itself Saturday against Amarillo Tascosa while falling 25-16, 15-25, 25-10, 25-16 in the Tascosa Activity Center.

The Lady Bronchos (16-16 overall, 6-5 district) dropped their second consecutive District 2-5A road match, though they did show better than in a three-game loss to Tascosa last month in Odessa.

During that match, the Lady Bronchos recorded just nine kills. On Saturday, Deja McKnight had nine kills herself while Dorrian McKnight added seven and OHS had 28 as a team.

"We didn't even show up when we played them in Odessa," Odessa High head coach Linda McMillan said. "We played a much better match, but we still should've got another game. We beat them handily in Game 2 and played better. We just didn't do it consistently."

Heidi Elliott had 22 kills to help lead Tascosa (17-13, 9-2), which stayed tied with San Angelo Central for second place in the District 2-5A standings.

Odessa High stayed tied for fourth place in the 2-5A standings with Midland High (22-11, 6-5), which lost Saturday at Amarillo High (34-3, 11-0).

Those same Lady Sandies, the two-time defending Class 5A state champions, will pay a visit to the Odessa High Fieldhouse at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

>> Monterey beats Permian: In Lubbock, Permian High School's volleyball team dropped its sixth consecutive District 2-5A match Saturday, falling 25-20, 25-18, 25-22 at Lubbock Monterey.

The Lady Panthers (14-18 overall, 2-9 district) had won earlier this season against Monterey (12-16, 3-8), but the tables were turned in the second meeting.

Shelby Chancellor helped lead Permian's effort with nine kills and four blocks, Ashley Madden had 15 assists and four digs, while Alex Arzaga had six kills, 13 assits and four digs.

Permian returns to the court Tuesday at Midland High, which it pushed to the limit in a five-set loss last month at the Permian Fieldhouse.
