Ronald McDonald Care Mobile schedule

Medical Center Health System and the Ronald McDonald Care Mobile have scheduled the following mobile hours and locations for January for Ector County Independent School District students.

Mobile hours are from 8:30 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. and 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Thursdays and from 8:30 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. Fridays.

Mobile locations on the following dates will be at:

  • Today through Friday: Pease Elementary School, 1800 W. 22nd St.
  • Jan. 30-31: Zavala Elementary School, 1201 Clifford St.

Visits may also be made from 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursdays and from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Fridays at the Family Health Clinic, 840 W. Clements St. All day visits may be made from 8:30 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Jan. 16 at the clinic.

Walk-in patients are accepted until 10:30 a.m. and are seen on a first-come, first-served basis.

Volunteers needed

  • Odessa Regional Medical Center Volunteer Services has scheduled training for those interested in auxiliary volunteering at 10 a.m. Jan. 31 at ORMC East Campus, 520 E. Sixth St. Refreshments and hospital tour will be included. For more information, call 582-8796.
  • The Medical Center Hospital Volunteer Services Department has scheduled volunteer training for those interested in volunteering with MCH Auxiliary, MCH Friendship Home or other volunteer teams.Sessions are scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon Feb. 2 at the MCH conference room in the cafeteria small dining rooms A&B, 500 W. Alzheimer’s contest focuses on keeping memories alive

Home Instead Senior Care is conducting “I Will Remember for You Family Reunion Giveaway” Reunion Giveaway contest to help keep memories alive for families coping with Alzheimer’s disease.

Participants may submit a story in either written or video format about their experience with a family member living with Alzheimer’s disease or other dementias for a chance to win a family reunion. Essays and videos need to:

  • Share how Alzheimer’s has impacted their life.
  • Talk about the role that memories and remembering have played in their family, especially with regard to a family member who now has or had Alzheimer’s.
  • Share specific stories or examples of how you and your family members cope or coped with challenges of Alzheimer’s disease.
  • Tell why you deserve to win this family reunion.

Entries must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. EST Jan. 31.

Three finalists will be notified by a judge’s panel by Feb. 15.

Online voting to select the grand prize winner will occur from March 28 through June 30, 2012.

The grand prize winner will be publicly revealed in November, following the family reunion event.

DWI Intervention classes to begin

Conner DWI Intervention Classes, an 8-week program for repeat offenders, are scheduled from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays, Feb. 6 through March 28, at Fairfield Inn, 3993 JBS Parkway.

The cost is $350. Seating is limited and registration is required.

OC announces meningitis vaccination requirements

Beginning with the spring semester, a new state law requires students entering college to show evidence of receiving a bacterial meningitis vaccination or booster dose during the five year period prior to enrollment.

Those entering students required to receive the vaccination or booster must meet the following requirements: under the age of 30, have never attended another Texas college or university, or did not attend during the 2011 fall semester.

The following is acceptable evidence of vaccination or receiving a booster dose:

  • The signature or stamp of a physician or his/her designee, or public health personnel on a form which shows the month, day and year the vaccination dose or booster was administered.
  • An official immunization record generated from a state or local health authority.
  • An official record received from school officials, including a record from another state.

OC requires its students at the time of registration to provide proof of receiving either the vaccination or a booster. Other colleges may have other requirements.

The following locations have been confirmed to have the vaccination available:

  • Health Department: Free only if student cannot afford the vaccination. If student is 25 and younger, must bring shot record. Call for availability at 498-4141.
  • Family Health Clinic: $5. Call for availability at 332-8870.
  • Walgreens: $133.99. The pharmacy will process the student’s health insurance to determine co-pay amount if insurance covers immunization.
  • HEB Pharmacy: $130. The pharmacy will process the student’s health insurance to determine co-pay amount if insurance covers immunization.
  • Wendover Family Medicine: The clinic will process the student’s health insurance to determine co-pay amount if insurance covers immunization.
