Central Fishing Report

Week of 3/12 - 3/19

BASTROP: Water clear. Black bass are very good on watermelon and watermelon red spinnerbaits, crankbaits, Rat-L-Traps, and soft plastics. Crappie are good on minnows and black/blue tube jigs over brush piles. Channel and blue catfish are good on stinkbait, shrimp, and nightcrawlers. Yellow catfish are slow.

BELTON: Water fairly clear; 65 degrees; 0.20' high. Black bass are good on Rat-L-Traps. Hybrid striper are good trolling Rat-L-Traps. White bass are good on minnows under lights at night. Crappie are very good on minnows under lights at night. Channel and blue catfish are good on hot dogs and Spam. Yellow catfish are good on juglines baited with live perch and goldfish.

BROWNWOOD: Water stained; 56 degrees; 2.15' low. Black bass to 4 pounds are very good on black/blue Bass Hogg jigs, shad crankbaits, and watermelon GrandeBass 4" Trickster worms over brush. Hybrid striper are slow. White bass are good on Li'l Fishies, spinnerbaits, and crankbaits. Crappie are fair on minnows over brush piles in 10 - 22 feet. Channel catfish are good on cut bait and shrimp over baited holes in 10 - 20 feet. Yellow catfish are slow.

BUCHANAN: Water clear; 56 degrees; 3.15' low. Black bass are fair on jerkbaits, 1/8oz. and ¼oz. pumpkin Curb's jigs, and Carolina rigged JDC lizards along break lines and bluff ledges in 10 - 25 feet. Striped bass are good drifting live bait in 25 - 35 feet, and trolling white/chartreuse Curb's striper jigs and crankbaits. White bass are fair on Pirk Minnows, slabs, and trolling crankbaits at the mouths of larger creeks. Crappie are fair on minnows over brush piles in 12 - 15 feet. Channel catfish are slow. Yellow and blue catfish are slow.

CANYON LAKE: Water clear; 60 degrees; 0.01' high. Black bass are fair on jerkbaits, black/chartreuse Curb's hair jigs, and Texas rigged Scoundrel worms on shaky jigheads in 20 - 25 feet. Striped bass are fair to good trolling ¼oz. white Curb's striper jigs, and vertically jigging Pirk Minnows and Spoiler Shads. White bass are fair jigging Pirk Minnows and ¼oz. Blade Baits along the main river channel at mid lake in 40 feet. Smallmouth bass are good on JDC smoke/red flake tubes, tomato red curl tail grubs, and tomato red drop shot worms over rock piles in 12 - 25 feet. Crappie are fair on minnows and crappie jigs upriver. Channel catfish are slow. Yellow and blue catfish are slow.

COLEMAN: Water clear; 60 degrees. Black bass are good on chartreuse soft plastics, spinnerbaits, and crankbaits. Hybrid striper are good on silver and chartreuse striper jigs. Crappie are fair on minnows and blue tube jigs. Channel and blue catfish are good on stinkbait, shrimp, and cut bait. Yellow catfish are slow.

COLORADO RIVER: (At Colorado Bend State Park) Water murky. Black bass are slow. Striped bass are slow. White bass are fair on minnows. Crappie are fair on minnows and small white tube jigs. Catfish are fair on stinkbait and frozen shrimp in deep holes.

FAYETTE: Water lightly stained; 68 degrees. Black bass are good on watermelon red, green pumpkin, and redbug Carolina rigged soft plastics off deep points, and on spinnerbaits, Rat-L-Traps, Senkos, flukes, and soft plastics in shallow areas. Channel and blue catfish are good on shrimp, nightcrawlers, and stinkbait.

GRANBURY: Water clear; 1.12' low. Black bass are very good on chartreuse/black soft plastics and Rat-L-Traps over grass. Striped bass are fair on silver striper jigs and minnows. White bass are fair on minnows. Crappie are good on minnows and black tube jigs. Catfish are slow.

GRANGER: Water murky; 56 degrees; 0.29' high. Black bass are good on live minnows, jigs, and spinnerbaits. White bass are fair on white jigs upriver near Dickerson's Bottom and the primitive launch. Crappie are good on jigs in creeks and sloughs upriver and around Willie Creek in 15 - 20 feet. Blue catfish are good on prepared bait in shallow areas. Yellow catfish are slow.

LBJ: Water stained; 57 degrees; 0.31' low. Black bass are slow. White bass are fair jigging ¼oz. Curb's jigs and Pirk Minnows from Apple head to Horseshoe Bay. Crappie are slow. Channel catfish are slow. Yellow and blue catfish are slow.

NAVARRO MILLS: Water murky; 60 degrees; 0.74' low. Black bass to 2.5 pounds are fair on minnows. White bass are slow. Crappie to 2 pounds are fair on red/chartreuse and black/chartreuse tube jigs and minnows. Channel and blue catfish to 6 pounds are good on shrimp, stinkbait, and nightcrawlers. Yellow catfish are slow.

PROCTOR: Water stained; 59 degrees; 0.28' low. Black bass are slow. Striped bass are slow. White bass are slow. Crappie are slow. Channel and blue catfish are fair on live shad in 20 - 25 feet. Yellow catfish are slow.

SOMERVILLE: Water stained; 61 degrees; 0.07' high. Black bass are slow. Hybrid striper are slow. White bass are slow. Crappie are excellent on minnows, and on green/black jigs. Channel and blue catfish are fair on stinkbait. Yellow catfish are slow.

STILLHOUSE: Water clear; 58 degrees; 0.25' high. Black bass are good on minnows and watermelon red soft plastics. White bass are fair on minnows. Crappie are very good on minnows. Channel and blue catfish are excellent on hot dogs and Spam. Yellow catfish are slow.

TRAVIS: Water clear; 59 degrees; 0.10' high. Black bass to 5 pounds are good on red shad worms, watermelon flukes, and spinnerbaits in 4 - 15 feet. Striped bass to 4 pounds are fair on minnows and spoons, and trolling crankbaits in 25 - 35 feet. White bass are fair on silver jigging spoons and trolling shad crankbaits in 15 - 30 feet. Crappie are good on minnows and chartreuse tube jigs in 10 - 20 feet. Channel and blue catfish to 8 pounds are fair on nightcrawlers, cut shad, and perch in 28 - 40 feet. Yellow catfish are slow.

WALTER E. LONG: Water fairly clear; 62 degrees. Black bass are good on minnows and chartreuse soft plastics. Hybrid striper are very good on minnows. White bass are excellent on minnows. Crappie are slow. Channel and blue catfish are slow. Yellow catfish are slow.

WHITNEY: Water stained; 7.41' low. Black bass are fair on jerkbaits and Carolina rigged soft plastic lizards along break lines in 10 - 20 feet. Striped bass are fair drifting live bait in 25 - 35 feet, and on striper jigs and crankbaits. White bass are fair on Pirk Minnows and slabs.
