South Fishing Report

Week of 3/12 -3/19

AMISTAD: Water clear; 56 degrees; 6.89' low. Black bass are good on Lucky Craft jerkbaits, Revenge spinnerbaits, Yamamoto Senkos, Norman crankbaits, and soft plastic worms and lizards. Striped bass are good on slabs and small crankbaits. White bass are good on slabs and small crankbaits. Crappie are good on minnows up the Devil's River under trees. Catfish are good on cheesebait, shrimp, and nightcrawlers in 40 - 100 feet. Yellow catfish are slow. Mexican fishing licenses are required to fish Mexican waters. Everyone in the boat must have a Mexican fishing license whether fishing or not. Mexican boat permits are no longer required.

BRAUNIG: Water stained; 70 degrees. Black bass are good on crankbaits and dark soft plastic worms in the reeds and near the jetty and dam. Striped bass are good on liver and shad at Dead Tree Point and near the pier. Redfish are slow. Channel catfish are excellent on liver, shrimp, cheesebait, and cut bait near the dam and the discharge. Blue catfish are good on cut bait in 15 - 20 feet.

CALAVERAS: Water stained; 70 degrees. Black bass are good on dark soft plastic worms, spinnerbaits, and crankbaits in reed beds and near the dam. Striped bass are good on spoons and jigs near the dam and the crappie wall in 15 - 20 feet. Redfish are slow. Crappie are slow. Channel and blue catfish are excellent on liver, shrimp, and cheesebait near the railroad trestle. Yellow catfish are slow.

CHOKE CANYON: Water stained in main lake, clear upriver; 64 degrees; 0.91' low. Black bass are good on spinnerbaits and heavy jigs in grass. White bass to 2.5 pounds are good on minnows and jigs. Crappie are fair on minnows. Drum are slow. Channel and blue catfish are good on stinkbait and live perch. Yellow catfish are slow.

COLETO CREEK: Water lightly stained; 75 degrees (80 degrees at discharge); 0.51' low. Black bass are very good on chartreuse/white soft plastics and spinnerbaits in 15 - 25 feet. Striped bass are slow. White bass are slow. Crappie are fair on minnows. Channel and blue catfish are very good on live perch, cut bait, and shrimp in 20 - 30 feet. Yellow catfish are slow.

FALCON: Water stained; 67 degrees. Black bass are good on soft plastics and spinnerbaits in shallow areas. Striped bass are slow. Crappie are slow. Channel and blue catfish are excellent on frozen shrimp and cut bait. Yellow catfish are slow. Mexican fishing licenses are required to fish Mexican waters. Everyone in the boat must have a Mexican fishing license whether fishing or not. Mexican boat permits are no longer required.
