Midland fraud sentencing

Comments 0 | Recommend 0

MIDLAND A 39-year-old Midland man was sentenced Tuesday to 11 years and three months in prison.

U.S. District Judge Rob Junell handed down the sentence on charges of bank fraud and conspiracy to commit bank fraud, four counts of money laundering and three counts of aggravated identity theft, according to a U.S. Attorney's Office news release.

Junell ordered Carlos Rene Machuca to pay more than $600,000 in restitution to his victims and serve a five-year term of supervised release following his prison sentence.

The news release said Junell also ordered the forfeiture of Machuca's interest in several vehicles, like a 2005 Corvette, purchased in connection with the fraud.

A federal jury found Machuca guilty on June 10 in connection with all nine counts with which he was charged.
