Tax for fire?
Comments 0 | Recommend 0THE STORY: It's not something he's actively pushing, but West Odessa Volunteer Fire Department Chief Jimmy Ellis planted a seed when he brought up the idea of creating new taxing entity to county commissioners Wednesday. Ellis said a tax rate of around 4 cents per $100 valuation would be enough to cover the needs - and that would take the burden of funding emergency services off the county every year.

>> mikoiram419: "I am tired of West Odessa being treated as the redheaded step child. We are always overlooked and have to fight for less than our share. There are too many residents out here to keep being treated this way. We are overlooked by cable companies, internet services and other such services. Those hurt the companies, but we pay our fair share of taxes already and should not have to be without basic services or get second class services because the county is unwilling to fund it. If we have a tax increase what's to guarantee it will be used in West Odessa and not sent off somewhere else as almost all the rest of the monies are?"
