Boys soccer: Permian gets balanced scoring to beat Bastrop
Comments 0 | Recommend 0COPPELL Three different players scored goals Thursday night as Permian High School's boys soccer team opened the season with a 3-0 victory against Bastrop in the Coppell Kickoff Classic.
Colby Pyron set the tone for the Panthers in the 13th minute by scoring off an assist from Barrett Brown.
Permian pushed the lead to 2-0 about six minutes later when Alan Castillejos scored off an assist from Mason Vincent.
The two-goal scoreline held up through halftime, and the Panthers added their final goal in the 53rd minute.
Barrett Yates provided the finish for the 3-0 victory after by heading in a pass from Cooper Barham after a corner kick by Vincent.
Senior goalkeeper Chris Benavides picked up the shutout.
The Panthers return to action in the tournament at 6 tonight against perennial power Arlington Martin.
They will close out the tournament at 2 p.m. Saturday against Plano East.
In the group's other opener Thursday, Plano East beat Arlington Martin 1-0. Plano East will play Bastrop at 4 p.m. today.
Elsewhere in the tournament, San Angelo Central fell 1-0 to A&M Consolidated.
