Command Sgt. Maj. Jimmy R. Cooper

DENVER, COLO. Command Sergeant Major Jimmy R. Cooper, (US Army Ret), 74, of El Paso, Texas, died at 12:10am, January 25, 2012, while traveling in Colorado.

Jim was born June 8, 1937 in Rising Star, Texas. He graduated from Odessa High School, Odessa, Texas in 1955. He married Glenda Gay Palmer in 1957 and enlisted in the Army in 1958. His service includes a tour of duty in Korea, 2 tours of duty in Vietnam, many meritorious ribbons and a Bronze Star for valor. During his career in the military, Jimmy Ray served his country, both in the United States and overseas with pride, relentless patriotism and undying loyalty to his country. Jimmy Ray worked for and retired from American Airlines in 2004.

He is survived by his beloved dog, Bud; four children: Sherri Cooper of Aurora, Colorado; Kevin Cooper of Peoria, Arizona; Keith Cooper of Austin, Texas and Alton Cooper of Cameron Park, California and six grandchildren. He is survived by four brothers: Bill Cooper, Marshall Cooper, Marvin Cooper and Preasley Cooper and one sister, Clara Barr,

He is preceded in death by his mother and father, Henry and Grace Cooper and his sister, Emma Cooper.

Burial services were held at 11:30am, Tuesday, January 31, 2012, at Ft. Logan National Cemetery in Denver, Colorado.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00pm, Sunday, February 12, 2012, at Immanuel Baptist Church, 4020 E University Blvd, Odessa, Texas.
