Universidad art faculty sets local exhibit

If art imitates life, then an upcoming exhibit at The University of Texas of the Permian Basin is very timely.

Multi-media artists including faculty from Universidad de Chihuahua are presenting "El Interior, La Frontera, y Más Allá (Interior, Border, and Beyond) at UTPB's Nancy Fyfe Cardozier Gallery from Friday through Oct. 5.

Among other pieces, photographic works by Erika Rascon, paintings by Patricia Marquez, and sculpture from George Lorio reflect the impact of politics between the United States and countries to the south on these citizens who live on both sides of the border.  Prints, ceramics, and digital media will also shed light on some important issues during an election year. Approximately a dozen artists will be showing at this event.

The exhibit is co-sponsored by UTPB Student Life and the Odessa Council for the Arts and Humanities.  An opening reception will be held in the gallery on the UTPB campus from 7p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday.

Operating hours for the Nancy Fyfe Cardozier Gallery are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, and 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. weekends. The exhibit is free and open to the public. For information, call 552-3288.
