Jennifer Guiley Photography — 2009 Best Photographer

“Smile and say cheese” is something you’ll never hear from Jennifer Guiley of Jennifer Guiley Photography.

“I stay away from the traditional photographer’s studio,” says Jennifer. “I see photography more as an art.”

Voted Best Photographer in the 2009 Permian Basin Readers’ Choice Poll, Jennifer describes herself as an on-location, natural light photographer. She has a flair for finding artistic backgrounds and letting her subjects come across as themselves.

“If I’m shooting a wedding, I’ll talk to the couple and get to know them so they can speak more through their photos,” Jennifer says. “If I’m photographing children, I’ll meet them in a place where they’re comfortable, like their own home, Grandma’s house, a park or a church.”

Jennifer gets to know the children well enough so that they feel as though they’re playing. “They’ll be smiling, giggling, laughing. But sometimes, they don’t want to smile, and that’s fine.”

Parents pay Jennifer the ultimate compliment when they say, “Who we see in those pictures — that’s who our child is.”

“That’s so gratifying,” Jennifer says.

Jennifer has had a strong interest in photography since she was a child, and her interest grew after the birth of her children.

“Nobody could take pictures of them the way I wanted, so I took them myself,” she says. “Then other people saw the pictures and asked me to take pictures of their children. The business grew from there.”

Jennifer specializes in maternity, infant, child, family and wedding portraiture. She posts the pictures on a private on-line gallery so that families can look them over and select the photos they want.

“I’m honored to receive the 2009 Best of the Permian Basin Award. I’d like to thank all my wonderful clients who help me to get my art out there,” she says.

Jennifer especially thanks Collin Sewell and Robert Simmons at the Sewell Family of Dealerships, clients Penny Roberts and Lashae McCollum for supporting her by spreading her name and photography to many of their friends and family members, and her own family for their love and support.
