FOOTBALL: Nov. 4 Permian Basin preview capsules

>> CLINT LIONS AT PECOS EAGLES

Time, Date, Place: 7:30 tonight, Rotary Field.

Records: Clint 6-3 overall, 3-0 District 3-3A; Pecos 4-5, 3-0.

Last Week: Clint did not play; Pecos 42, Mountain View 14.

Radio: KIUN-AM 1400 (Pecos); audio feed on Suddenlink Cable channel 3 (Pecos).

Internet: 98xfm.com.

Last Season: Pecos 42, Clint 21.

Notes: Last season, Pecos won its first outright district championship since 1944. Win a win tonight, the Eagles can win back-to-back outright district titles for the first time ever. “I told the kids before the Mountain View game and then after that you don’t get many opportunities in life to get to play to reach your goals,” Pecos coach Chris Henson said. “They have an opportunity to reach a big one that they set.” … The winner will be the District 3-3A champion and its No. 1 postseason seed in Division II. The loser will be the second seed in Division II. … The Eagles are averaging 45 points per district game after scoring only 12 per game in nondistrict play. They’re allowing only 11 points per district game and have forced 13 turnovers in three games. … Fullback Josh Enmon is Pecos’ fourth-leading rusher for the season with 291 yards, but he’s been the team’s best lately. Against Mountain View he gained 128 yards on 13 carries and also scored three times. “Those are tough yards he picked up,” Henson said. “On the last touchdown he probably broke five tackles. He hit the line of scrimmage and fought through and finally popped through the middle. It was a heck of a run.” … Clint, which has the only winning overall record in the district, clobbered winless Anthony 48-0 but beat Fabens and Mountain View by a combined 16 points. … Henson said the Lions’ leader is small but speedy running back Rolando Parra, a two-time qualifier for the state track meet in the hurdles. “He’s not real big, about 5-7, 165, but if he gets in the open field he’s hard to catch,” Henson said. “He can flat run.”

Zuvie’s View: Pecos 31, Clint 21.

>> GREENWOOD RANGERS AT FORT STOCKTON PANTHERS

Time, Date, Place: 7:30 tonight, Panther Stadium.

Records: Greenwood 5-4 overall, 1-2 District 4-3A; Fort Stockton 6-3, 0-3.

Last Week: Greenwood 62, Andrews 61; Seminole 52, Fort Stockton 6.

Radio: KFST-AM 860 and KFST-FM 94.3 (Fort Stockton).

Internet: kfstradio.com, greenwoodrangersfootball.com.

Last Season: Greenwood 22, Fort Stockton 19.

Notes: The winner has a chance to reach the playoffs as District 4-3A’s third-place team, but only if Andrews loses to Monahans. If the Mustangs lose, Greenwood is in with a win. Fort Stockton needs to win by at least 14 points. “I guess we’re not in complete control of our fate,” Greenwood coach Shad Hanna said. “But for the most part we are.” … Fort Stockton has longer odds because its needs to win by a certain margin, but the Panthers are embracing the second chance they were given by Greenwood. The Rangers kept Fort Stockton’s playoff hopes alive with last week’s 62-61 win against Andrews. Fort Stockton coach Derrick Taylor is comparing it to the second chance his team received against Pecos in mid-September. The Panthers were trailing at halftime when the game was suspended because of a storm. They came back the next day and dominated the second half to win 33-16. “I said (to the players) that not many times in a season do two second chances come up,” Taylor said. “I challenged them, ‘What do you want to do with it?’ They’re taking it head in. They’re excited, the coaches are excited, everybody in town’s excited. We know the magic number’s 14.” … Greenwood scored 14 points four times over in its wild win last week in which it never led until Kyle Rimer’s 37-yard field goal with 17 seconds remaining. Quarterback Kam Williams led the comeback with 615 total yards and six touchdowns, Trey Cave scored four touchdowns and Colin Sullivan caught 15 passes for 175 yards. There were several other contributors for the Rangers, who gave their weekly “Matter of Effort” award to the entire team. “It wasn’t one individual that stepped up. Everybody had to help,” Hanna said. “If you’re going to come fom behind by 27 points, it’s everybody.” … In their loss to Seminole last week, the Panthers got a strong rushing performance by Joe Ray Barboza for the second game in a row. He gained 97 yards on 26 carries. Quarterback Adrian Martinez scored the team’s only touchdown on a 45-yard run late in the third quarter. … Fort Stockton needs all the offense it can find, and one of its best defensive efforts, to win by at least 14 points for just the third time all season. Its other four wins came by a combined 14 points. “We have it in us,” Taylor said. “We just have to dig down deep and do it.”

Zuvie’s View: Fort Stockton 21, Greenwood 7.

>> MONAHANS LOBOES AT ANDREWS MUSTANGS

Time, Date, Place: 7:30 tonight, Mustang Bowl.

Records: Monahans 7-2 overall, 2-1 District 4-3A; Andrews 5-4, 1-2.

Last Week: Monahans did not play; Greenwood 62, Andrews 61.

Radio: KACT-AM 1360, KACT-FM 105.5 (Andrews); KPTX-FM 98.3 (Pecos); audio feed on Suddenlink Cable channel 3 (Monahans).

Internet: kactradio.com; 98xfm.com.

Last Season: Monahans 36, Andrews 18.

Notes: After falling victim to a monumental comeback by Greenwood last week, now Andrews is faced with the monumental task of beating Monahans in its regular-season finale. The Mustangs must do that in order to reach the playoffs, or have Fort Stockton beat Greenwood by fewer than 14 points. “This is the old David vs. Goliath ballgame,” Andrews coach Jeff Cordell said. “Obviously we’re David going up against the big green machine in Goliath. There’s probably not a lot of people, probably not anybody, that thinks we can win this game on Friday night. But this game is not played on paper.” … Monahans coach Mickey Owens, whose team has secured a playoff berth, isn’t counting Andrews out. He realizes the Mustangs are in a virtual must-win situation, and they also have some talented offensive weapons. Sophomore quarterback Shane Dolgener accounted for 434 total yards and six touchdowns in last week’s loss to Greenwood, and Tadarius Ridge is one of the most explosive receivers in the area. “They’re mad from last week and fighting for their playoff lives, so they’re fixin’ to come out fired up against us,” Owens said. “I can pretty much promise you when Andrews steps on the field and they’re playing Monahans, they’re going to be ready to play.” … So are the Loboes, who used their bye last week to refresh, recharge and recover. Owens said his players also are anxious to return to action, so he doesn’t expect a lull in enthusiasm even though Monahans is guaranteed to play again next week. Owens said the playoffs start tonight as far as he is concerned. “You need a lot of confidence going into the playoffs, so we’re going to play our regular game and hopefully win the game,” Owens said. “We’re going to play as hard as we possibly can.” … Cordell said he’s hopeful that senior safety Josh Criswell, who got hurt against Seminole two weeks ago and missed the Greenwood game, will be healthy enough to play tonight. That would provide a boost to the Andrews defense, which must try to slow down Monahans’ Wing-T rushing attack led by Pedro Cano and Byron Scharf. … Andrews also must try to forget about last week’s emotional loss and focus on the task at hand. “These kids have been resilient,” Cordell said. “They have to be resilient this week or your season’s over. They know the situation.”

Zuvie’s View: Monahans 35, Andrews 21.

>> COLORADO CITY WOLVES AT KERMIT YELLOW JACKETS

Time, Date, Place: 7:30 tonight, Walton Field.

Records: Colorado City 7-2 overall, 4-1 District 2-2A Division I; Kermit 5-4, 3-2.

Last Week: Colorado City did not play; Alpine 35, Kermit 22.

Radio: Audio feed on Suddenlink Cable channel 3 (Kermit).

Internet: 98xfm.com.

Last Season: Colorado City 35, Kermit 0.

Notes: Kermit doesn’t need any help to secure a playoff spot for the first time since 2008. The Yellow Jackets just need to help themselves. Kermit, which has a one-game lead over Alpine for District 2-2A Division I’s third and final postseason berth, is in with a win at home tonight. The Yellow Jackets also will advance to the playoffs if Alpine loses to Denver City, but they hope to make that a moot point. “Our destiny’s in our own hands,” Kermit coach Coby Owen said. “We don’t have to depend on anybody else Friday night. We don’t have to worry about if this team wins or if this team loses. We have control. We just have to go out and take care of business.” … That will be easier said than done against Colorado City, which already has secured a playoff berth and is coming off a bye week. Not counting their loss to district-champion Wall, which is undefeated, the Wolves have beaten their four other district opponents by at least 10 points apiece. Derek Gainey is a productive, dual-threat quarterback for the Wolves, and Owen said they have “dangerous speed” and are “very athletic” on both sides of the ball. “We’re just going to have to keep them contained when we’re on defense and keep them in front and tackle well,” Owen said. “Offensively we’re just going to have to get after it up front.” … Quarterback Joe Pearson led Kermit’s rushing attack against Alpine last week, gaining 90 yards on 20 carries. He also threw a touchdown pass to Erik Montoya, who had a rushing score as well. … The Yellow Jackets’ power running game could get a boost this week. Owen said Tuesday that tight ends Alan Barrera and Tristan Cano were likely to return from injuries. “They’re a couple of our bigger tight ends and they’ve been hurt a couple of weeks now,” Owen said. “It looks like they’re ready to go after the last couple of days of practice.”

 Zuvie’s View: Colorado City 34, Kermit 14.

>> ALPINE FIGHTIN’ BUCKS AT DENVER CITY MUSTANGS

Time, Date, Place: 7:30 tonight, Mustang Stadium.

Records: Alpine 6-3 overall, 2-3 District 2-2A Division I; Denver City 3-6, 1-4.

Last Week: Alpine 35, Kermit 22; Crane 24, Denver City 8.

Radio: KVLF-AM 1240 (Alpine).

Internet: bigbendradio.com.

Last Season: Denver City 31, Alpine 26.

Notes: Alpine had to beat Kermit last week to keep its playoff hopes alive, and it had to win by at least nine points. The Fightin’ Bucks did just that, and they’ll need a similar feat this week to snag the third and final playoff berth from District 2-2A Division I. They need to win by any margin, and have Kermit lose against Colorado City. “In all reality, it was a playoff game just like this week is,” Alpine coach Stacey Martin said of last week’s win. … The Fightin’ Bucks look to get yet another solid performance from sophomore quarterback Evan Moore, the team’s leading rusher with 562 yards and 11 touchdowns, and one of the area’s leading passers with 1,595 yards and 15 TDs. Moore accounted for all three of Alpine’s offensive touchdowns last week, passing for two and rushing for one. … Oscar Trevino’s two touchdowns might have been even more important. He broke a 7-7 tie with a 94-yard kickoff return and added a punt-return TD later in the game. They were Alpine’s first two return touchdowns of the season. “We’ve been waiting to get one for so long now and it finally happened,” Trevino said. “Everyone was all pumped up and ready to go.” … The Fightin’ Bucks are facing a Denver City team coming off a tough offensive outing against Crane. The Mustangs finished with only 97 total yards, and they gained only six yards on 21 rushing attempts. … Denver City used two quarterbacks last week. Mason Milligan passed for 70 yards and rushed for the Mustangs’ only touchdown, while Clancy David threw for 21 yards and finished with minus-47 rushing yards on five attempts.

Zuvie’s View: Alpine 38, Denver City 21.

>> CRANE GOLDEN CRANES AT GRAPE CREEK EAGLES

Time, Date, Place: 7:30 tonight, Eagle Stadium.

Records: Crane 5-4 overall, 2-3 District 2-2A Division I; Grape Creek 0-9, 0-5.

Last Week: Crane 24, Denver City 8; Wall 60, Grape Creek 0.

Internet: lonestarsportsradio.com.

Last Season: Grape Creek 14, Crane 7.

Notes: Crane can finish in a tie for third place in District 2-2A Division I with a win and a Kermit loss against Colorado City, but the Golden Cranes have no chance of making the playoffs. They lost their head-to-head matchup against Kermit, and if there’s a three-way tie involving Alpine, the Fightin’ Bucks would hold the tiebreaker based on points differential between the three teams. … Crane already has surpassed its three wins from last year and can double that total by concluding this season with their second win in a row. … The Golden Cranes had a shutdown defensive game last week, limiting Denver City to 97 total yards and six rushing yards on 21 attempts. Their defense had eight sacks — two apiece by Michael Holliman, Jolson Cavazos, Nolan Box and Marco Vergara — and Jaime Ortiz made five tackles behind the line of scrimmage. … Crane also got an efficient passing performance from Tyler Althof, who completed 17 of 22 passes for 203 yards and touchdowns to Dalton DeGraffenreid and Pookie Woods. Gunner Tatum added a rushing touchdown on his only carry. … Grape Creek didn’t score at all last week, being shut out for the fifth time this season and for the third time in district play. The Eagles have scored only 21 points in league play and 47 for the season, which is an average 5.2 per game.

Zuvie’s View: Crane 39, Grape Creek 10.

>> IRAAN BRAVES AT MARFA SHORTHORNS

Time, Date, Place: 7:30 tonight, Martin Field.

Records: Iraan 7-2 overall, 2-1 District 5-1A Division II; Marfa 3-5, 1-2.

Last Week: Iraan did not play; McCamey 33, Marfa 0.

Internet: lonestarsportsradio.com.

Last Season: Iraan 53, Marfa 6.

Notes: Neither team has clinched a playoff spot heading into the game, but both could be headed to the postseason by the time the night ends. Iraan needs a win, a loss by fewer than nine points or a Van Horn loss against McCamey to qualify for the playoffs. Marfa needs a win by at least 10 points, or a win coupled with a Van Horn loss. “It’s big,” Iraan coach John Fellows said. “Big for everybody.” … Iraan’s chances for a fourth consecutive outright district championship ended with its loss to McCamey two weeks ago, but the Braves still can win a share of the title with a win and a McCamey loss against Van Horn. … Marfa is trying to squeak into the playoffs for the second year in a row in what could be its final season as an 11-man team. The Shorthorns expect to drop to six-man next year, but they aren’t quite ready for this year to end. “The kids really want to make the playoffs,” Marfa coach Jeff Jones said. “That’s been their goal all along and now their backs are against the wall, so they’re just going to have to come out swinging.” … There’s a good chance Marfa, which was shut out for the first time in Jones’ two-year tenure last week, will come out slinging with quarterback Fabian Serrano. He threw nine interceptions in last year’s game against Iraan, which was his first career start, but this year the strong-armed senior has 950 yards and eight touchdowns with six interceptions. The Shorthorns also use Robert Morales, who is more of a runner than a passer, at quarterback. “They’re completely different style quarterbacks, so you kind of have to work out for two different scenarios throughout the week,” Fellows said. “We were able to do that, so we just have to see how it goes.” … Iraan also uses two quarterbacks, but Drew Fellows and Zeth Hernandez are more similar than they are different. They’ve combined for 1,953 yards and 21 touchdowns rushing, and 1,210 yards and 12 TDs passing. “We’re going to have to figure out some way to shut them down or at least slow them down a little bit,” Jones said.

Zuvie’s View: Iraan 28, Marfa 20.

>> McCAMEY BADGERS AT VAN HORN EAGLES

Time, Date, Place: 7:30 tonight, Eagle Stadium.

Records: McCamey 7-2 overall, 3-0 District 5-1A Division II; Van Horn 5-3, 1-2.

Last Week: McCamey 33, Marfa 0; Wink 48, Van Horn 20.

Last Season: McCamey 20, Van Horn 19.

Notes: McCamey’s postseason fate is secure. The Badgers will be District 5-1A Division II’s No. 1 seed and have a first-round bye regardless of the outcome of tonight’s game. All that’s on the line is winning the district title outright or possibly sharing it with Iraan. … Van Horn can clinch a postseason berth with a win, but a loss won’t necessary eliminate the Eagles. They also can get in if the margin of their loss is 16 points fewer than the margin of a Marfa loss against Iraan. … Don’t expect many pass plays, and don’t expect many clock stoppages. McCamey and Van Horn have the top two rushing offenses in the area, having each gained at least 300 yards per game on the ground. … Van Horn’s James Friel is the area’s third-leading rusher this season with 1,146 yards and 12 touchdowns, and he had another solid game last week with 123 yards and two long scores. But only 24 of those yards came after halftime as Wink bottled up Friel and the rest of the Eagles’ offense in a second-half shutout. … McCamey will try to do the same a week after blanking a Marfa team that had scored at least 20 points in its first seven games of the season. The Badgers forced five turnovers, Bubba Greer returned one of his two interceptions for a touchdown, and Jaimen Lopez had his first pick of the season and broke up three passes. Britton Hale had a team-leading six tackles and five quarterback pressures. … McCamey rushed for 407 yards and averaged 7.7 yards per attempt. David Pineda led the way with 110 yards on 11 carries, while J.J. Casarez added 94 yards and three touchdowns.

Zuvie’s View: McCamey 24, Van Horn 14.

>> TORNILLO COYOTES AT WINK WILDCATS

Time, Date, Place: 7:30 tonight, Wildcat Field.

Records: Tornillo 2-6, Wink 4-5.

Last Week: Tornillo did not play; Wink 48, Van Horn 20.

Radio: KCKM-AM 1330 (Monahans).

Internet: kckm1330.com.

Last Season: Did not play.

Notes: Both teams will conclude their seasons with a nondistrict game. For Wink it’s a chance to finish with a second consecutive win at Wildcat Field. “We’re going to play this last game for our seniors and try to finish up 5-5,” Wink coach Andy Hrncir said. “That’s something to build on.” … Wink went 1-3 in District 5-1A Division II and can finish in a tie for third place if Marfa and Van Horn lose tonight. But the Wildcats would finish on the short end of a three-way tiebreaker under that scenario. … Wink gave itself a chance to finish in a third-place tie with last week’s come-from-behind win against Van Horn. The Wildcats dominated the second half and got huge performances from quarterback Seth Abbott and receiver Cory Funderburg. Abbott passed for 324 yards and five touchdowns, and Funderburg had 10 catches for 212 yards and two TDs. Hrncir said the convincing win was equal parts encouraging and frustrating. “We decided to make plays a little bit too late,” he said. “It’s disappointing. I think we’re a lot better than our record, but I think we’re on the right track.” … Tornillo, which is playing an outlaw schedule unaffiliated with a University Interscholastic League district, has lost each of its last four games at least 21 points apiece. But the Coyotes beat a Marfa team that beat Wink, and Hrncir said they have “one of the best athletes we’ll see” in Ernie Burciaga, who plays quarterback, running back, safety and kicker. “We’ve got our work cut out for us,” Hrncir said. “It should be a good football game. We’re excited about it.”

Zuvie’s View: Wink 31, Tornillo 10.

NO. 3 RANKIN RED DEVILS AT FORT DAVIS INDIANS

Time, Date, Place: 7:30 tonight, Bart Coan Field.

Records: Rankin 7-2 overall, 2-0 Six-Man District 7 Division I; Fort Davis 7-1, 2-0.

Last Week: Rankin 60, Garden City 12; Fort Davis 54, Sierra Blanca 8.

Radio: KALP-FM 92.7 (Alpine).

Internet: bigbendradio.com.

Last Season: Rankin 67, Fort Davis 48.

Notes: Fort Davis and Rankin already have secured playoff spots, and this game will decide the Six-Man District 7 Division I championship and the teams’ posteason seeds. The Indians are trying to win their first district title since 2008, and the Red Devils haven’t won a league crown since sharing the 2007 title. “It’s big,” Rankin coach Shannon Williams said. “It’s real big.” … The Red Devils have been ranked in the top 10 in Division I by sixmanfootball.com since beating then-No. 1 Borden County in their season opener. They climbed to No. 1 after their fifth game, and their only losses were by a combined 14 points to Ira and Water Valley, which now occupy the top two spots in the rankings. “I would say they are the No. 1 team in the state,” Fort Davis senior Francisco Perez said of the Red Devils. “We know they are a really tough, good team.” … With that said, the 11th-ranked Indians view this game as a gauge for how good they are. Their only loss came against then-No. 1 Throckmorton right before district play, and Fort Davis led the Greyhounds at halftime before eventually losing 104-82. “Rankin is as good a ballclub as we’e played all year,” Fort Davis coach Jess Roberts said. “They’re just as tough, if not more than Throckmorton.” … Rankin has a strong running game led by Cory Norwood and Ryan Thomas, and it’s also capable of throwing it. But quarterback Dalton Michum has attempted only two passes in two district games, both blowout wins for the Red Devils. “I kind of teased him a little bit last week,” Williams said. “I told him it’s going to be hard to get all-district quarterback throwing the ball only two times. He’s actually a very good quarterback. He just hasn’t gotten to show it in district.” … Fort Davis’ Steve Enriquez is a virtual lock for all-district honors at spread back. The strong-armed junior has been a threat throwing the ball and running it, and he accounted for 300 total yards and three touchdowns in only one half of action last week. … Williams said the Red Devils have been working on defending onside kicks because the Indians attempt those “95 percent” of the time. He also said facing a true spread team for the first time all season will be an adjustment for his defense. … Roberts said he’s concerned with slowing down Rankin’s rushing attack and combating their size on the offensive and defensive lines. He said his Indians must use utilize their quickness and avoid making mistakes. “We’re trying to get our kids to play the perfect football game,” Roberts said. “That’s what it’s going to take from us to beat them.”

Zuvie’s View: Rankin 70, Fort Davis 52.

>> SANDERSON EAGLES AT BALMORHEA BEARS

Time, Date, Place: 6:30 tonight, Bear Stadium.

Records: Sanderson 6-4 overall, 4-3 Six-Man District 6 Division II; Balmorhea 4-5, 4-3.

Last Week: Sanderson did not play; Grandfalls-Royalty 80, Balmorhea 38.

Last Meeting: Balmorhea 66, Sanderson 26 on Sept. 30.

Notes: Balmorhea already has beaten Sanderson this season, but the Bears must do so again in order to qualify for the playoffs. The teams are tied for the second and final berth from Six-Man District 6 Division II, so the winner will advance to the playoffs and the loser will see its season come to an end. “The pressure would have been on them had we beat Buena Vista, but now it’s a mutual affair, I guess,” Balmorhea coach Lonnie Flippen said. “Both of us understand what the consequences are.” … Balmorhea’s 56-38 loss to Buena Vista, which is guaranteed to finish in fourth place, came without seven players who were academically ineligible. Six of those players are now back with the team, and Flippen said they owe something to the rest fo the Bears. “I hope that they have a sense of urgency now and try to make up for dropping the ball on us,” Flippen said. “I’m hoping that some of them see this as a way to make amends to the team and play a little harder, knowing what’s on the line.” … Flippen said two-way Fabian Diaz, who missed some time earlier this season with a knee injury, is now out for the season after hurting his neck last week against Grandfalls-Royalty. Quarterback Chance Virdell missed the Grandfalls-Royalty game but is expected to return this week, so the Bears will have their full backfield complement of Virdell and running backs Alex Mendoza and Justin Ramos. … Flippen said he doesn’t care how the Bears beat Sanderson a second time, just so long as they do. And while he wouldn’t be overly proud of reaching the playoffs with a 5-5 overall record, that would beat the alternative. “I heard a guy say one time that 20 years for now, nobody’s going to ask how you got there,” Flippen said. “Just did you get there?”

Zuvie’s View: Balmorhea 50, Sanderson 48.

>> GRANDFALLS-ROYALTY COWBOYS AT BUENA VISTA LONGHORNS

Time, Date, Place: 7:30 tonight, Longhorn Stadium, Imperial.

Records: Grandfalls-Royalty 9-1 overall, 7-0 Six-Man District 6 Division II; Buena Vista 4-5, 3-4.

Last Week: Grandfalls-Royalty 80, Balmorhea 38; Buena Vista did not play.

Last Season: Grandfalls-Royalty 62, Buena Vista 14 on Sept. 30.

Notes: Grandfalls-Royalty already has secured the outright championship in Six-Man District 6 Division II and is trying to complete an unbeaten run through its league schedule. Buena Vista is out of playoff contention but will finish in a third-place tie with a win. “It’s one of those rival games with them just being 10 miles away,” Grandfalls-Royalty coach Kyle Hauk said. “We’re just excited about the district championship and looking forward to finishing up with a win and heading on in to the playoffs.” … Buena Vista’s last game was a 56-38 win against Balmorhea two weeks ago. Quarterback Eric Gomez completed 12-of-16 passes for 241 yards and five touchdowns in the victory, which gave the Longhorns a chance to finish the season and district play with .500 records. … The Cowboys are coming off a blowout win against Balmorhea, and it was an emotional game for Grandfalls-Royalty senior Vicente Cadena. His grandfather, Elias Ramirez, passed away the day before the game after a battle with cancer. Cadena then made nine tackles from his nose guard spot and also caught a touchdown pass. “We dedicated the game his grandfather, and he had a real good game defensively,” Hauk said. “He’s anchored out offensive line all year. He’s our best blocker.” … Hauk said brothers Junior and Joel Marquez also played well defensively against Balmorhea. … Thomas Burns did most of the Cowboys’ damage offensively last week, rushing for 203 yards and three touchdowns while passing for another 100 yards and five TDs.

Zuvie’s View: Grandfalls-Royalty 64, Buena Vista 14.
