Grandfalls-Royalty football coach arrested

Grandfalls-Royalty High School head football coach, athletic director and principal Arturo Rodriguez was arrested Sunday night in connection with a complaint about an improper relationship between an educator and a student.

Texas Ranger Phillip Breeding said Rodriguez turned himself in between 10 p.m. and 10:30 p.m.

The investigation is still in its early stages, Breeding said, but it has “revealed he had an improper relationship.”

Breeding said Rodriguez was sent to Ward County jail, however jail officials would not release information on what Rodriguez was charged with or his bond amount.

Rodriguez, who just completed his fourth season as football coach, is also in his first year as principal.

Rodriguez also is the boys basketball coach and the track and field coach.
