Swarmin' Lawndale
Comments 0 | Recommend 0The Odessa Animal Control swarmed to the scene of a call of aggressive bees in the 8900 block of Dublin Avenue in Lawndale on Monday afternoon.
About 2 p.m. Animal Control Manager Cheryl Brom and a crew of animal control workers drove along the block, looking for the bees and warning residents of the insects tendencies to "bounce off" objects.
In this case, Charles Delaney, of Delaney Pest Control, said the bees were bouncing off of resident's cars to warn people to stay away from them.
Delaney, who arrived in the neighborhood about 6 p.m., couldn't seem to find the bees' hive or swarm while walking through residents' yards.
At one point, Brom, who drove an Animal Control vehicle, honked the truck's horn repeatedly to try and agitate any remaining bees.
"I'm worried where the hive is," Brom said.
Delaney said he couldn't exterminate any bees if he couldn't find some. However, he said emphasized the importance of trying to rid the neighborhood of the insects.
"Would you want to live here if they were here?" he asked.
Brom said the crew would be back on Dublin Avenue today to ensure all residents are aware of the situation.
