Lions District 2-T3 Annual Mid-Winter Conference

The Lions District 2-T3 held its annual mid-winter conference Jan. 30 in Pecos. During the meetings, two high school level youth scholarship contests were conducted. Local and area students participated in a diabetic essay contest titled ‘Diabetes-The Epidemic is Here.’ The second category was the Outstanding Youth, which is based on the student’s high school academics, leadership/community service, letters of recommendation and a personal interview, according to Ociel Carrillo, organizer. Scholarships were awarded for first through third place winners in each area. First place received $750, second $500 and third $250. The first place winners will compete in the state contest May 15 in El Paso.
