A Fort Stockton man was found guilty Wednesday morning in the 2011 killing of a woman at a convenience store.
According to 83rd District Attorney Jesse Gonzales, the jury took less than 30 minutes to find Luis Bustamante Orona guilty of murder in connection with the July 9, 2011, stabbing death of Mayra Fernandez Orona.
Although most criminal cases go to the jury for punishment as well, Luis Orona opted for the judge to set punishment. A hearing for that phase was set for April 19.
According to police affidavits, Luis Orona confessed to police and his employer that he stabbed his wife more than 20 times at Stripes, 1000 N. Front St., Fort Stockton.
Orona faces between five years to 99 years or life in prison.
