A former West Texan and another man are dead after being hit by an 18-wheeler while fighting in the middle of a highway near the Arkansas-Mississippi border.
Joshua Brooks, a 26-year-old from Kermit but living in Oakgrove, La., was having a physical altercation with 27-year-old Robert Christopher, also of Oakgrove, in the middle of the Highway 82 when an 18-wheeler traveling east on Highway 82 collided with both men at about 1:30 a.m. Sunday, east of Lake Village, Ark., according to the Arkansas State Police website.
“I was shocked,” Brooks’ great aunt Jaynell Nash said.
Brooks had just been in Kermit with his uncle on Saturday before heading back to Louisiana, Nash said.
Raised in Kermit, Brooks had relocated to Oakwood, Louisiana a few years ago, Nash said.
The driver of the 2006 Volvo TTL, 52-year-old Donald Curtis Ray of Celeste, was not injured, the report stated, and it was unclear why the fight happened.
