The prosecution has rested in the trial of a man accused in the stabbing death of his 25-year-old wife.
Luis Bustamante Orona is charged with one count of murder after confessing to the July 9 stabbing at Stripes, 1000 N. Front St., Fort Stockton, according to a probable cause affidavit.
Orona’s trial began Monday morning, but Tuesday the prosecution rested and jurors were sent home for the day, according to a spokesman in the 83rd District Attorney’s Office.
According to the affidavit, officers responded to the Stripes and found Mayra Fernandez Orona already dead. Witnesses told police that Luis Orona stabbed her.
Later, when police spoke with Luis Orona, he said he knew she was dead because he stabbed her 20 times, according to the affidavit, and also confessed the homicide to his employer.
Luis Orona turned himself in to police without incident the next day.
