While some might not like rainy days, the rumble of thunder and the sound of raindrops was cause for celebration for Odessans early Thursday evening.
The city received its most significant rainfall in almost a year, National Weather Service meteorological intern Michelle Schuldt said. Schlemeyer Airport received 1.15 inches Thursday, Schuldt said, the most since Aug. 20, 2010, when it recorded 1.21 inches.
Meanwhile, Midland International Airport received 0.36 inches of rain Thursday, its first significant rainfall since getting .16 inches Sept. 25, Schuldt said.
Continued rain is also a possibility.
Schuldt said there was a 20 to 25 percent change of rain today and about a 20 percent chance of rain Saturday.
The wet weather came in from the west, causing showers and thunderstorms to pop up, Schuldt said.
Although the amount of rain might not be significant to other parts of the world, it is to Odessans and residents should act accordingly.
“Watch out when driving,” Schuldt advised.
