The UTPB baseball team is on the verge of clinching a spot in the Heartland conference tournament.

The Falcons (15-20 overall, 10-11 conference) have narrowed their magic number down  three with nine conference games remaining.

The Falcons are scheduled to open a three-game series against St. Edward’s with a doubleheader at 1 p.m. today in Austin.

Felix Cardenas (3-4, 3.25 ERA) and Connor Lewis (3-6, 6.17 ERA) are expected to start for the Falcons today.

The only team that can catch UTPB is Newman (17-20, 9-15), which has three conference games left – all against UTPB.

St. Mary’s and Texas A&M International have already qualified for the conference tournament, while St. Edward’s magic number is two.
